The year was 2016. The award-winning blacksmith’s name is Matt Jenkins. And he felt he was in a creative rut. So for one hour a day for 366 days, Jenkins hand forged a hook. Each one different as this exhibit shows. And, over the 12 months, the new hooks took on growing complexity and grace. The end result was an amazing 366 versions of what an ordinary item like a hook can be in the hands of an artist.
This exhibit at the Sculpture Park at Brandi Fenton Park is, happily, indoors so you can take time to view each of the 12 panels of hooks without melting from the heat. (Unlike a previous exhibit that was superhot!)
The show is open on Tuesday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. through August 15th.
Also outside at the Sculpture Park are works by local sculptors including this one near the entrance gate. I love the dancer in iron!
