Let it never be said that Tucson is proud only of the city’s muralists. Sculptors also have their place in the sun. Tucson has set aside part of Brandi Fenton Park as a Sculpture Park. And this weekend, March 18-20th, there is a Sculpture Festival. Local and regional sculptors will be showing and selling both large and small works.
A few weeks ago, however, I stopped by the Sculpture Park to take photos of some large works by the famed German sculptor Rotraut which were on display. Here are a few of her works being exhibited.
Now 83 years old, Rotraut’s sculptures have sold for as much as $225,000.
While the first impression is that the sculptures are in solid primary colors, in fact, many have tiny sparkles of other colors imbedded in the painted finish, as you can see reflected in the highly reflective black sculpture below.
