Earth Day cake with dolphins leaping over oceans

Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day is 56 years old today. It began as a “teach-in” in 1970 to make people aware of the environmental problems facing America and the entire world. This tradition continues.

Now saving the oceans have taken a prime position in environmental problems the world is facing. Ocean levels are rising. Cities, even whole countries, are being threatened with inundation — being swamped, then drowned by the ocean. The great “river” in the ocean is slowing down because of increasing fresh water as glaciers melt. This “river” of ocean water streams around the globe, flowing from one ocean to the next and is a primary controller of weather. So this month’s cake is celebrating Earth Day with a cake for the oceans and creatures of the sea.

I hope you are doing what you can to improve our environment by recycling, planting a tree or some shrubs, or skipping those plastic bags in the fresh vegetable aisles of the grocery store. Just put your fresh vegetables in your cart; you don’t need that extra plastic bag. Chances are you will just throw it away within days and it’s likely to end up in the ocean harming sea creatures.
