Joe pagac mural parrot and kid pirate

Newest mural in Tucson (unfinished) plus 2 more

The weekly newsletter from District 3 City Councilwoman had a short article and a couple of pix of a new mural by Joe Pagac at the Amphi Middle School. So I stopped by on Sunday and discovered that the mural is just getting started. Pagac has painted broad blue and gold stripes of color and begun sketching in the figures–mostly pirates, the Amphi Mid School mascot. It looks as if it will be a fun mural when it’s done. (No surprise, however. Aren’t many of his murals whimsical and fun?!)

I’ll come back later for more photos when it’s completed . In the meantime here are a couple of panels of this very long Amphi mural. Then on to photos of two murals in Menlo Park: one older, one newish. Oh, the Amphi mural is sponsored by Cox Communications. Thank you, Cox!

Old and new in Menlo Park

On the side of Menlo Home and Garden at Congress and Grande in the Menlo Park neighborhood is a Lady of Guadalupe with an inscription at the base that I couldn’t decipher. It appears to have been there for a while. It’s a classic and worth a short detour if you are going to Mercado San Agustin or the nearby Garden of Gethsemane by the Santa Cruz river. (Not sure who the artist is. If you know, please contact me via the Comments.)

And…now for a mural kitty-corner from Our Lady. Actually there is artwork on the front of the building and a 5 panel mural on the side–which lately seems to be covered up by a big white bus that’s parked right beside the building. I took these photos about a year ago before the bus became a permanent resident. This mural, by A. Trujillo, has sadly already been slightly defaced. (Hey, c’mon. Let’s have respect for the artist!)

For those of you who follow this blog, I missed the chalk festival down at Sahuarita on Saturday. Instead I was cleaning up debris on A Mountain with the Trashy Divas. My Message: Don’t Litter!
