Frosty yoda darth vader minion inflatable decorations Tucson 2020

Stolen Yoda restored along with Darth Vader

Since the 1960s the neighborhood of Winterhaven in Tucson has done a Christmas decoration Festival of Lights. Block after block of over-the-top decorated homes and yards. All homeowners in Winterhaven are required to participate; it’s in the deeds for the properties. But the 2020 Winterhaven Christmas celebration was cancelled.

I live a few blocks away from Winterhaven, and was disappointed by the cancellation. I missed it last year. So it was fun to see a neighbor pop up some inflatable Christmas decorations that included the obvious Santa and Frosty. (Frosty jiggles–shivers–BTW.) The neighbor also added Yoda, Darth Vader and a Minion to the holiday tableau to make it a really 21st Century scene.

But the force wasn’t with them.

Five days ago in the dark of night someone stole Yoda, Darth Vader and the Minion. Santa and Frosty remained in place.

I had planned to take photos of this group at night with my new smartphone, but what remained was only a half-display from the 20th Century.

Then came a holiday miracle: another neighbor bought a new Yoda, Minion and a slightly shorter Darth Vader and they have been restored to their rightful place as a happy holiday scene at night. The force was with them after all!

Santa better put those thieves on the double-whammy Very Naughty list!

The City of Riverside California also does a Festival of Lights. You can see photos of it on my site LA City Pix.
