The Sonoran Glass School is bringing stained glass to the masses. Whether you want to make shimmering glass balls or translucent glass Christmas trees, this non-profit school, filled with furnaces, fire and lots of sharp edges will teach you how to do it.
At their Open House on Sunday I saw furnace glassblowing, torching glass, and fusing glass in a kiln. And you could try out each of those techniques at one-day-only prices well below those listed for their classes on their website. The school was absolutely packed with people, many of whom seemed to be lookie-loos. Well, maybe some will come back later and take classes.

An instructor was helping the older man create a blown glass ornament. That pole with the glass on the end is very heavy. You have to be strong to be a glass blower.
After watching all three types of glass work, I decided to try the process that seemed to be the least dangerous: fusing. None of that directly handling fire for me! Click on image to see 4 more.
Then out behind their big workshop on 18th St. is a “garden”…well, a large open space with lovely glass garden ornaments on display.
